When you come from a big family like I do, there can be all kinds of good times and bad times.
But no matter what was happening, one thing we all could agree upon and settle down for was watching episodes of I Love Lucy. Most recently we did this on Mother’s Day when we watched some of the Hollywood episodes.
It’s been that way all my life and, thankfully, it is still that way.
Today marks the 115th anniversary of the birth of series star Lucille Ball, the comedic genius who inhabited Lucy Ricardo, the greatest character in the history of television in my opinion.
Miss Ball got to share her immense talents with the world and even though she died in 1989, we are still enjoying her as much as we ever did.
I also find the first three seasons of her follow-up series, The Lucy Show, quite enjoyable because she was teamed again with the great Vivian Vance.
Trust me when I tell you that Steve August and TJ Howe are the life of any party.
They certainly made my recent trip to Provincetown far zanier than it would’ve been otherwise with their sensational costumes, amazing energy and stamina and tremendous sense of fun.
We met at a West Hollywood event earlier this year and discovered that they would be providing the entertainment at the anniversary party of our mutual friends Steven and Rod at Boatslip in P-Town in July.
Had so much fun with them at tea parties all week and their enthusiasm is contagious!
And the fun continues with the duo featured – wearing their park ranger outfits, of course – in this new NY Times article: “The Bears Are on Ozempic”

Keep making our world a better and happier place Steve and TJ!
Yesterday, I walked out of my dentist’s office and saw a guy who looked an awful lot like Michael Ausiello crossing the street. It turns it is was Michael Ausiello, author of the best-selling memoir Spoiler Alert which I’ve read twice and cried just as much each time.
The book was made into a film released in late 2022 with four-time Emmy winner Jim Parsons portraying Michael and Ben Aldridge as his late husband, Kit Cowan. The film tells the story of their 13-year relationship and Kit’s last year of life. Two-time Oscar winner Sally Field portrays Kit’s mother.
It’s a wonderful movie and I’m so happy that it was just begun streaming on Netflix so it can reach an even wider audience.
Bumping into USC alum Michael, who I profiled in a 2022 Trojan Family Magazine article, made me want to remind readers about the film now being available on Netflix!
Michael became well-known for getting the inside scoop on television shows and stars during his decades as a TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly columnist, then as founder and editor-in-chief of TV Line.
More recently, he has had tremendous success with Michael Ausiello Presents: Beverly Hills: a Pretend Soap Opera Performed by Real Actors which had a two-year anniversary performance last weekend at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles that quickly sold out.
As a closeted gay teen in the 80s, Michael wrote 517 episodes of an original soap opera called Beverly Hills and saved every handwritten script. Star-studded live readings of various episodes had a hugely successful run earlier this year at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. Last year, the show made its New York debut with a one-night only performance to benefit the Ali Forney Center.
Rosie O’Donnell s Kara Swisher for a candid conversation about Donald Trump, leaving America, GLPs, plastic surgery, and parenting an autistic child.
After moving to Ireland following Trump’s return to the White House, Rosie is back in New York for her new one-woman show, Common Knowledge, and to guest host Jimmy Kimmel Live! She explains why she left the U.S., why she still believes it’s her responsibility to speak out against Trump, and why she says she won’t stop now.
Rosie also opens up about raising her autistic child, the grief of losing her mother at a young age, coming out in Hollywood, her decades-long feud with Trump, and why she’s found a new sense of peace in her 60s.
Plus, she gets candid about GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, plastic surgery, Broadway and what she hopes comes next.
‘Half Man’ and ‘Baby Reindeer’ creator and star Richard Gadd s Dinner’s On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Over roasted fish and watermelon salad, they discuss their unique experiences as Boy Scouts, dealing with the pressure of success after a cultural phenomenon like Netflix’s ‘Baby Reindeer,’ and the sleepless nights he faced taking on the challenging role of Ruben in ‘Half Man,’ streaming on HBO Max and the BBC.

East End Books Ptown is my favorite spot in all of Provincetown where I recently returned from an 8-day vacation.
The bookstore is heaven. It is a place where my younger gay self would have felt so safe and just wanted to spend hours exploring and discovering. I could see just about every favorite book I ever read on the shelves – so thoughtfully curated and presented with love and care by owner Jeff G. Peters (pictured w/me in final photo) and his staff.
My favorite places growing up were the library and bookstores and I felt that old excitement, joy and interest each time I returned to East End Books during my trip. My first visit there, I bought Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Cunningham’s 2002 nonfiction book Land’s End: A Walk in Provincetown and immediately started reading it.
My dear late friend, Cam Sanders, had loaned me his copy seven years ago before our trip out here – my first time in P-Town. Cam spent part of just about every summer of his life in nearby Cape Cod and absolutely loved P-Town. He wanted me to know about the magic of the place before I arrived. I wasn’t ready for the book then and barely read any of it. It seems I needed to absorb and experience some of the town first.
But now I was ready and read the book cover to cover last week during afternoons at Boatslip Resort. It turned out that author Cunningham (The Hours), a longtime resident of P-Town, was having a talk and book g for his latest: Unsayable: A Life in Writing last Saturday. I quickly ed and on the evening, ed more than 100 people in the back garden of the bookstore for this rich experience. As Michael signed both my books after the Q&A, he absolutely loved hearing about how I had read Land’s End poolside at Boatslip.
Most impactful, for me, were his thoughts on the first time, as an adolescent, you find you deeply love someone (outside of your family)and how powerful that can be, how you never forget it, and how it shapes you. He told us of his person and he made me think of mine. He made me see the beauty in the memory of the experience and not just the eventual heartbreak of it. I thanked him for that in our few moments together. Priceless experience.
Luke Evans talked with Set Meyers last week about wearing stilettos and a corset in his Broadway debut for The Rocky Horror Show, having to use oxygen tanks during his performances and eating bad oysters before going to New York City for the first time.
