Music legend, beloved icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 – she was staunch LGBTQ+ ally

Will write more soon. Just saw this news and am devastated as we all are. What a woman. What a legend. What a good person.

Legendary singer-songwriter and country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.

Her nephew, Brian Seaver, revealed the news in an Aug. 25 Instagram video.

“My name is Brin Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the ing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” he says in the video. “This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.”

Seaver added: “It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”

“I first went on the road with Dolly as a kid, getting a taste of the road life in the early 1980s. Dolly opened doors not just for me but for her entire family to reach the potential we didn’t even know was possible. Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent., Seaver added in the video message. “By her example, we believed that anything is possible. She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history.

His statement continued: “My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD and on your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family whether you liked it or not. Our family and the team she has entrusted with her legacy will work diligently to ensure her spirit will live with us forever. Dolly was a farmer, just like her daddy; he farmed the soil, she farmed songs and happiness. Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.”

Seaver ended his statement, saying, “Rest in peace, Aunt Dolly — Aunt, Granny, Gigi. May God bless Dolly Parton, and may God bless you all. She will always love you.”

Parton shared an update on her health on Friday, Aug. 21, acknowledging her recent decline after the March 2025 death of her husband, Carl Dean.

“As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl. You know, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to manage something like this. Back in the early ’80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health,” Parton told PEOPLE.

She added: “But I think because we live in a 24/7 world with social media, everything gets magnified in ways it wasn’t years ago. I used to joke that I was the Queen of the Tabloids, but now I guess I can say I’m the Queen of Social Media AI! Seriously, though, even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’! You know me — as I’ve often said — I’ve dreamed myself into a corner and I still have so many things I want to achieve, so I’m gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life.”

Highlights from Rosie O’Donnell’s final night as guest host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” – what a week!

Rosie O’Donnell has had one heckuva summer in the U.S. which culminated last night with her fourth and final outing as guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Rosie didn’t make it ALL about Trump this week but certainly got in a few jabs last night in a musical number that ended her monologue. I love the interviews and her chemistry with guests. As she returns to Ireland, I hope Rosie continues to renew her energy and her spirit and that some smart producers/execs are cooking up some ways to bring her back in a cool new way.

Rosie said on the Tangle podcast in a recent interview: “My agents are taking meetings and figuring out what would be the best option, and it would be when Trump is no longer in power. That’s when I’d want it to start, and that’s when the healing must begin.”

A mostly shirtless photo tribute to film legend Robert Redford who was born 90 years ago today

What can I say about Robert Redford? He just always made me swoon.

The film legend, born 90 years ago today, died last September at the age of 89. He left behind a remarkable body of work in front of and behind the camera and was the founder of the Sundance Film Festival and the Sundance Institute and was deeply involved in independent films.

This post focuses on Redford the actor.

Although he has an Oscar for directing Ordinary People and received an Honorary Academy Award for his contributions to the film industry, it seemed wrong that Redford had not been nominated more for acting besides The Sting in 1974. He was absolutely robbed of a nod for 2013’s All Is Lost for which he received some of the best reviews of his career.

So many wonderful performances over the years including my favorites: All the Presidents Men, The Way We Were and Three Days in the Condor.

Maybe Redford has been penalized for being such a beauty.

He spent the 60s as a leading in such films as Inside Daisy Clover and This Property is Condemned – both opposite Natalie Wood as well as Barefoot in the Park and The Chase, both with Jane Fonda. But his most famous pairing came when he and Paul Newman teamed up for 1969′s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Then came the 70s and a string of major films including The Candidate, The Sting, The Great Gatsby, Jeremiah Johnson, The Great Waldo Pepper, and Three Days of the Condor.

Beginning in the 80s, Redford mixed directing (Quiz Show, River Runs Through It, Horse Whisperer) with acting roles (Out of Africa, The Natural, Indecent Proposal, Spy Game, An Unfinished Life) and proved with All is Lost that he’s still going strong and capable of carrying a film literally by himself.

In his later years, he starred in Our Souls at Night, his fourth film with Jane Fonda and in the terrific The Old Man and the Gun which was his last onscreen role as a leading man which earned Redford a Golden Globe Award nomination.

He is missed but his film work will last forever.
