Cheryl Ladd got emotional on Emmys red carpet when asked about the late, great Bob Mackie
Cheryl Ladd had not been part of the recent publicity blitz (GMA, Drew Barrymore Show, Paley Center in NYC) marking the 50th anniversary of Charlie’s Angels. So I was awfully glad to see her last night at the Emmys taking the stage with fellow Angels Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson. Cheryl is great in both drama and comedy, has starred in more than 35 TV movies and a dozen feature films, and can really sing. She starred on Broadway in Annie Get Your Gun, released three albums, headlined her own variety special and sang aty the Super Bowl. She gets choked up here talking about Bob Mackie and it’s such a real moment which makes it even more meaningful.

WATCH: Celebrating the great Jean Smart on the seven-time Emmy winner’s 75th birthday

Jean Smart turns 75 today and I hope she gets a belated birthday present on Monday in the form of an eighth Emmy Award.
She is nominated for lead actress in a comedy for the fifth and final season of Hacks and, I think, she will again win. It will be very much deserved for the greatest role in a career filled with great roles.
I’ve loved her since her days as Charlene on Deg Women and have been astounded by her series of acting triumphs since then on such shows as Frasier, 24, Samantha Who?, Fargo, Mare of Eastown and Watchmen, among others.
Film credits include The Brady Bunch Movie, Sweet Home Alabama, Garden State, A Simple Favor and she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Guinevere in 1999.
Here are some of my favorite Jean Smart scenes:
